Children and Nature... What a Beautiful Connection!!!

Yesterday was a gorgeous day to go outside and enjoy nature. One of my favorite places to go with my little friends (amiguitos) is  Quarton Lake Park in Birmingham, Michigan. I was fascinated to see how one of them was so excited, curious and happy with everything around him. he loved walking on the grass and he also enjoyed watching the birds, ducks, geese, and different kinds of insects. He also really liked listening to the sounds of the waterfall, looking at the clouds and throwing little rocks in the pound. That was a beautiful  connection!!! Kids need nature  and they sometimes encourage us to take time from our regular busy routines and get outside to enjoy nature with them. Isn't it wonderful?
What things to do your children enjoy more from nature?

Here are some pictures from Quarton Lake Park:

Empathy in Children…..What a Sweet Thing to Do!

Children are the most beautiful creation from God. For that reason, I feel that they are the best example for us in being empathetic with others. Empathy refers to an understanding and sensitivity to another person's feelings. In my opinion I think that some children have empathy because they are born with that precious value. Also, because they follow examples from their parents or someone especial in their lives. I found an article that says that parents encourage empathy to their children by teaching them to say "I am sorry"

Do you know another reason why children are empathetic with others?

I would like to share with you some touching examples from my little friends (mis amiguitos) being empathetic with others. The picture that you see above is from my beautiful goddaughter.  Gabrielita is a sweet girl who loves to give hugs and smiles especially when she sees little friends alone or sad. Her awesome brother Samuelito, loves helping his mom with chores around the house. Also, he enjoys a lot being a wonderful gentleman with people around him. Fionita is a sweet girl who encourages people to support children who suffer cancer in inspiration of one of her little preschool friends who passed away a year ago from that terrible disease. Her sister Elizita is a wonderful girl who suffers when people are having difficulties. She tries to act as soon as possible to serve and help them. My others amiguitos that made the valentine crafts, love helping their mom to organize the groceries when their mom gets home from the grocery store. I have also enjoyed seeing the oldest sister help her little brother and sister at bedtime.
God bless mis amiguitos and all the children of the world.!!!!

Winter Break.....Visit Awesome Libraries at Detroit!

I really enjoy coming to the library. Last week I visited Baldwin Public library localized in Birmingham. The children area of course!!! was one of my favorite places. I liked to observe how the staff members were helpful and some were extremely creative in helping moms locate books, crafts, magazines, and information on great programs for kids. Also, I enjoyed watching how children love story times, meet other children, play computer, play with puzzles, puppets and blocks. That was a great time for me visiting Birmingham library.
Here are some of its events and registration is required. Log on http://www.baldwinlib.org

We are so fortunate to have our libraries

Also I would like to share with you some information about activities that can help you stimulate your child's interesting in reading:
  • Talk with your infant or young child before he learns to read. Talking with your child before he/she even speaks will help him/her learn important language skills
  • Read to and with your child at least 30 minutes each day. Your child will gain awareness of the conventions of reading (left to right, top to bottom), and even the very young will gain vocabulary
  • Sing songs and recite poems and rhymes that have repetitive sounds. Repetition makes it easier for your child to pick up on the patterns in the sounds you make
  • Make sure your child's day care provider, nursery school teacher, or preschool teacher reads aloud daily and offers books for your child to look at
  • Model good reading habits. Help your child understand that reading is important by letting him/her see your reading maps, books, recipes, and directions
  • Visit your local library. While you are there you can sign your child up for preschool story time and let her/him choose some books to take home

The Mothers (las Mamas)

I have been very blessed to meet beautiful people who have touched my heart and taught me a lot of how to love and help others, especially the little angels. They are LAS MAMAS (the mothers). I have learned a lot through them how to nurture and lead children in a loving way such as listening, understanding, communicating and being patient with them. These mamas encourage me to do the same with their beautiful example.

Last night, I had the opportunity to see one of these wonderful mamas and her children. She has four beautiful children; three, four, seven, and eight. With her unique and special way of showing love for her little ones, she gets the best out of them! I had a wonderful time with her children making valentines crafts and playing with them. They are adorable!.

Thanks mamas for your example and love. God bless you

Here are some Valentine's crafts from these little angels

Happy Valentine Day!!!!

Encouraging the Use of Gifts, Celebrating Self-Expression

Last Wednesday, Fionita, one of my little angels, inspired me to write this blog. She is seven years old. She enjoys many things such as playing with legos, taking care of her pet “Latte”, a hamster, playing with her Barbies, having fun with her friends who live next door. Among many other interests, her favorite thing to do is paint. She loves it. With a big smile and happy face, she said to me, while I was observing her “I WANT TO BE A FAMOUS ARTIST”. And I sensed her intensity. In my heart of hearts, I believe that she will be an artist. I do not know if she will be famous; but Fionita draws or paints every day. Her young life is intertwined with self- expression.

I hope you have the same experience with your child(ren), enjoying them as you witness them using their talents. It isn’t  beautiful?

When I was talking with some friends about children's talents, they names a number of areas of self-expression such as drawing, playing a musical instrument, dancing, writing, interacting with others, dressing up to name few. They also referred to those with athletic abilities and others with gifts and interest in the science and in math.

Reading educational articles on the subject, most experts agree that talents refers to some natural ability based on an area of strength. Also other experts believe that both the child's personality and the types of opportunities available in the environment over a period of time play a large role in the development of a talent.

The following are example of activities your preschool child experience to practice skills in several talents areas:
  • Counting and looking for patterns in different types of toys (mathematical ability)
  • Planting seeds and monitoring their growth or classifying objects based on size, shape, color and weight (scientific thinking)
  • Taking turns while playing charades or a board game (social skills)
  • Supplying directions for making something or providing a new ending to a story (verbal ability)
  • Building with legos, blogs, or other materials (spatial skills)
  • Listening to different types of music and recognizing changes in tempo (musical ability)
To facilitate and support your young child's talents consider these suggestions:
  • Be patient with your young child when you see potential talent. In most people who have been recognized for their talent, the skills and personality to pursue that area have developed over a log period of time;
  • Be aware that young children who show initial strength in an area such as mathematics, music, or art, might no be interested in practicing the skills related to this area; help them to enjoy the topic first and the talent may develop later;
  • Recognize that children show precocity in an area should receive attention in that area in order to further the development of their skills and should also be engaged in a variety of other activities.
Fionita enjoys art; but she also plays sports, is encouraged to nurture friendships and to develop her sense of humor by reading and telling stories and jokes.

I would love to hear from you. Please share some more ways in which we can support our children in their use of talents.

Have a wonderful week, see you soon.
